Faded

And years from now

I’m meet a non smoker

Who won’t drink too much

Without his face buried in a phone

Oh yes, he’ll look me in the eye

And of course he’ll be

Well, so much more besides

But you have to understand

You’ve set the bar low

So the only way is up

In this future

Where I’m sat next to him

Maybe messaging a friend

And you will flash by

On a Facebook suggestion

He will ask, and I will provide

Vague memories of you

Because it is all so faded now

Your looks lost

My feelings, finally gone

I will drift off

And he will bristle, thinking

That I’m thinking of you

Fondly

Not realising

That I’m trying hard to remember

Why you ever meant anything

To me, at all
